English · Heinrich W. GuggenheimerThey gave the owner occupied with his work the status of a farmhand. If the owner kept field vegetables [growing] in his vineyard, they are forbidden to him and to others. If a farmhand kept field vegetables [growing] in the vineyard, they are forbidden to him but are permitted to everybody else. This is difficult. If they are forbidden to him, they should be forbidden to everybody. If they are permitted to everybody else, they should be permitted to him. It must follow Rebbi Simeon who says that nobody may sanctify anything that is not his own property. Even though Rebbi Simeon says that nobody may sanctify anything that is not his own property, he agrees here that it is forbidden to him if another person harvested it; but if he himself harvested, it is forbidden to him and to everybody else.
