About

Understanding starts with curiosity.

Holymap is an atlas of the world's religions: 102 traditions, how each began, spread and branched over 100,000 years, what its followers believe and practise, and 87 sacred texts to read in the original beside their translations.

How the content is checked

Each religion's profile and each holy-day essay is written from published scholarship and then checked claim by claim against published sources. Every statement carries a numbered note listing those sources and whether it stood as written, was corrected or was hedged. Where scholars disagree, the text says so.

All of it is still marked draft: it has been fact-checked but not yet reviewed by subject specialists. If you spot an error, please write to [email protected].

Texts and data

The library uses public-domain and openly licensed editions, and the tradition data comes from open sources such as Wikidata. Every source and its licence is listed on Sources and licences.

Illustrations

The paintings are AI-generated in a single house style. They are artistic impressions, not historical records, and are labelled as such.

The app

The same content powers Atlas, the Holymap app for iPhone and Android, which adds a narrated, animated timeline and globe. The website and the app read from the same published content, so a correction appears in both.
