Privacy Policy
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your reading progress, bookmarks and settings stay on your device.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first. If you buy "Remove ads" or Pro, the ad software never starts.
- If you use Ask, your questions are sent to our server and to Anthropic's AI model to write the answer.
- We do not sell your personal information.
This policy explains what information the Holymap mobile app (the "App") and this website collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. "We", "us" and "our" mean the developer of Holymap.
1. Information we collect
Kept only on your device
The App saves your reading position, bookmarks, journey progress, settings and downloaded texts in local storage on your device. This information is not sent to us. Deleting the App deletes it.
An anonymous app ID
The first time the App connects to our server, it gets a random ID and a sign-in token, which are stored on your device. The ID isn't linked to your name, email or phone number. We use it to count how many Ask questions you've used each day, to keep your Ask conversations together, and to link purchases to your copy of the App.
Questions you ask
When you use the Ask feature, the text of your question goes to our server. We send it to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI model, so it can write an answer. We store your questions and the answers on our server, linked to your anonymous app ID, so you can continue a conversation. We also keep a daily count of how many questions each app ID asks, to enforce usage limits. Please don't include personal or sensitive details in your questions.
Purchases
Purchases (Pro and "Remove ads") are handled by Apple's App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We never see or store your payment card details. RevenueCat and our server receive your anonymous app ID and the purchase record (product, date, expiry and status) so the App knows what you've unlocked and can restore your purchases.
Advertising
If you haven't bought "Remove ads" or Pro, the App shows ads using Google AdMob. AdMob may collect information from your device to show ads, measure them and prevent fraud. That can include your device's advertising identifier, your IP address, your approximate location (from your IP address), your device type and ad interactions. On iOS, the device's advertising identifier is used only if you allow it when the system asks for tracking permission. In the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland and other places where the law requires it, the App shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and ads load only if your choices allow them. You can change your choices later from the App's privacy settings. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Technical information
When the App connects to our server or downloads content, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request information such as your IP address, the time of the request and your device's network details. We use this to deliver content, keep the service secure and fix problems. These logs are kept only briefly.
What we don't collect
The App does not use your precise location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. It does not include analytics or crash-reporting software. Text-to-speech narration runs on your device.
2. How we use information
- To run the App: answering Ask questions, enforcing daily limits and unlocking purchases.
- To show ads in the free version, as described above.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To comply with the law.
We do not use your information for any other purpose, and we do not sell it.
3. Who we share information with
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | The text of your Ask questions and the conversation so far | To write answers |
| Cloudflare | Request information, your anonymous app ID, Ask conversations and usage counts | To host our server and content |
| RevenueCat | Your anonymous app ID and purchase records | To manage purchases |
| Google AdMob | Device and ad information (free version only) | To show and measure ads |
| Apple / Google | Purchase and payment details | To process payments in their app stores |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
4. How long we keep it
We keep Ask conversations, usage counts and purchase records while the App is in use and for as long as we need them to provide the service. We delete server logs on a short, rolling basis. If you'd like your data deleted, see the next section.
5. Your choices and rights
- Ads: Buy "Remove ads" or Pro to turn off the ad software completely. You can also change your consent in the App's privacy settings, reset your advertising ID or turn on "Limit Ad Tracking" (on iOS, "Allow Apps to Request to Track") in your device settings.
- Local data: Delete the App to erase everything stored on your device.
- Server data: Email us to ask what we hold, or to ask us to delete it. Since there are no accounts, we may need a detail from you, such as your purchase receipt, to find your records.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Under some US state laws, using personalized ads can count as "sharing" personal information. You can opt out through the consent and device settings above. We won't treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
6. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. International transfers
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, they rely on legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
8. Security
Information sent between the App and our server is encrypted with HTTPS, and access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here and change the effective date. If the changes are significant, we'll also tell you in the App.
