A woodblock-printed scroll of the Diamond Sūtra ends with a note that Wang Jie had it made in 868 for free distribution on behalf of his parents. It is the oldest surviving printed book that carries a date. Sealed in a cave library at Dunhuang for centuries, it was found in 1900 and taken to London by the archaeologist Aurel Stein in 1907.
